Sempre Viva - Short Sleeve Shirt
Sempre Viva - Short Sleeve Shirt
Inspired by the unique fauna of the island of Kythera.
Sempreviva, the small golden-yellow flower, blooms abundantly in the northwest of Kythera, but with most of it found on the rocky islet of Chytra. According to myth, Paris and Helen of Troy stopped at Kythera after her abduction from Sparta, before continuing to Troy, to honor Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty. In a fit of jealousy, Helen asked Paris to confirm her beauty. He, pointing to the sempreviva, said: "Your hair has the golden hue of this flower, your body resembles its stem, and your skin is as soft as its petals. Your beauty will remain forever."
Later, the Venetians observed in the Middle Ages that the flower remains unchanged even after being cut, hence its name "sempreviva" (sempre + vivere). Its collection is difficult, as it grows in the most rugged spots and steep slopes, as if it does not want to be approached.
